GOLDFISH & FAIRYTALES
What link can there possibly be between goldfish and fairytales?
What is an individual's value based on?
The connection between goldfish and fairytales is that in both situations, the value of an individual is based on appearance, not on their personality. For example, in Snow White and the 7 Dwarfs, Snow White is portrayed as being valuable because she is physically attractive. In the same way, Cinderella is 'good' and valuable because she is young and physically attractive - she doesn't have 'big feet' nor is she overweight as her 'ugly' step-sisters are portrayed. In Sleeping Beauty, the female in the fairytale is valued based on her youth, her physical attractiveness to males. By contrast, the 'wicked witch' is ugly because she is older and less physically attractive to males. The 'ugly' females in fairytales are aligned with evil, anti-social, narcissistic personality traits, while the young, physically attractive females are portrayed as being innocent, pure and with kind personalities. Fairtales are not friends to a female's self-image and they set a false principle in regard to choosing a goldfish for your pet! Other factors, including the fish's personality and whether it matches your own, really does count.
Colourism, Shapeism, Ageism,
For millenia, women have been taught that their value depends on their physical attractiveness. Women have been brainwashed to believe that blonde-coloured hair is more attractive than brunette, auburn or black. They are also told that 'thin' is more attractive than 'thick.' To appear forever young is so desirable that women willingly pay thousands of dollars to be surgically altered so that they can be considered more attractive.
Racism
Entire races have suffered horrendously when 'colourism' was (and still is) applied to skin colour.

What is an individual worth?
It depends on which authority is in power to make the rules.
If those business that control the media tell society that women are more 'special' if they are blonde-haired, then all women will feel the insult, but some will feel unable to cope with the pressure and will dye their hair blonde. That is a shame response to the stress of being discriminated against.
In reality, every woman is special simply because she exists as a person. She needs to realise that she doesn't get her value by being able to considered'beautiful' by others, especially males. She can learn to value herself based on her character and she should be able to expect the same from society.

What should an individual's value based on?
The fact that they exist - regardless of whether they are male, female, old, young, their skin colour, born or unborn. We are not born into existence to be used by others, but to voluntarily contribute to the good of others. Culling human unborn babies to 'harvest' their organs is the most abominable practice, however it is the same spirit/principle that devalues the life of another being that the bully considers of little value other than what they can gain from the tiny life. Killing human babies, killing fish fry (babies) is the same principle. The biggest bully gets to kill the indefensible.
Charles Darwin, in his theory/religion of evolution declared that life was normally unfolding due to the principle of 'the survival of the fittest.' In actual fact, it seems to us that 'survival of the fittest' is a term that means 'domination by the biggest bully.' In a peaceful, successful society, every individual cares for the welfare of others to the same level as he/she cares for themselves, so there is no need to be the 'fittest' - the dominator, the biggest bully.
Any society that normalises using, abusing or denying an individual's existence, can not and does not produce a safe, free, equal, happy society.

GOLDFISH exist
- therefore-
Goldfish have value
The very common procedure of culling (killing) goldfish occurs simply because the appearance of the goldfish does not please the viewer.
The viewer assumes power over the goldfish's life. The viewer's judgement is based not on the individual fish's personality or individuality, but on its appearance - whether its appearance is the same or different to what the breeder has been told is 'acceptable' to the international breeding standards for that fish. Any fish that is the wrong colour (not blonde-haired) or whose tail or fins are the 'wrong' shape (thick, fat) are murdered. The process of murdering the young fish is called 'culling.'
There are many 'experts' who endeavour to justify the murdering of goldfish. These experts tell hobbyist fishkeepers exactly which, when and how to cull so as to keep the breed 'pure.' It is argued that there would be too many fish to care for if culling was not carried out. That is the same argument that has been used to support killing unborn human beings too, however the solution is the same. If you don't want to support all the off-spring, then don't breed the fish. Or if you insist on interfering with the goldfish's reproductive cycle, take responsibility for the outcome and adopt the fish out - find homes for them.
Non-human beings have a right to life. Breeders assume they have the power of life and death over creatures in their care, but they can only contribute death, not the creation of a life.
Just because a particular act like culling goldfish is practiced on a huge scale, as was slavery, doesn't mean it isn't evil or that it should be accepted.
Goldfishin' is a no-cull organisation. We provide responsible fish care combined with humanity.
